RtI Resources No comments yet

I spend quite a bit of time monitoring a range of different RtI related websites.  I pay particular attention to those that have some sort of interactive component.  I do this to try to monitor any new knowledge that is developing and to see who the others are that are pushing the front edge of RtI.  It’s not a very crowded space.  I wish that there was more participation in these very useful areas for exchange.  I’ve had several very valuable conversations that started in these forums.

One site that has a lot of promise is www.rtinetwork.org While seemingly not as well funded as www.rti4success.org it does seem to understand how to involve media into modern websites.  Aside from a forum (sadly, it is underused) it does provide several high quality video snippets from experts such as David Prasse.  Additionally, there are two excellent introductory videos.  The videos take a while to down load, but will be excellent tools for administrative team discussions.  The index enables users to simply jump to the spots of the video that are of greatest interest.  Hats off to their site administrator.  Based on the information on the page, it seems that there will be more of these videos down the road.  A few discussion questions are included, you need to scroll down to find them.  There are two videos, you can find them listed in the blue contents section on the left.  I wonder if there is something about navigating the site that causes it to get under used.  With persistence, I keep discovering little nuggets.  I’m passionate about RtI, so I’m probably a little more persistent than some.

Persistence is often a intersection between passion and time.  For those who are time starved, I strongly recommend checking out the podcasts.  I often play these while I’m signing papers or clearing off my desk at the end of the day.  The podcasts are conducted by some of the nation’s foremost RtI experts.

Please let me know some resources that you’ve found valuable.

Thank you for reading.

Alan Coulter, one of the foremost experts on RtI in the country, was kind enough to visit us a few weeks ago.  It was probably one of the most rewarding meetings of my career.  He gave us incredible advice and confirmed some of the work that our staff has been doing.  I just caught Alan’s write up of our visit in the RTI Action Network.  I wasn’t expecting it, but I am deeply grateful for his kind words

He’s right.  There is no better way to learn from each other than getting together and having a good discussion.  I believe we should use technology as much as possible, but not let it get in the way of getting together and having free wheeling discussions.  There’s a certain magic that occurs from a face to face discussion that expands the learning that cannot occur virtually.
